Standard counter practice
- Depth: 25 1/2 in over standard 24 in base cabinets (1 to 1 1/2 in front overhang).
- Seating overhang: about 12 in for counter height, 15 in for bar height, with support brackets.
- Sink and cooktop cutouts are normally not deducted. Fabricators price the full area.
- Draw a gap for a freestanding range (usually 30 in) and a dishwasher (24 in). There is no counter there.
- Backsplash is commonly 4 in high. Full-height backsplash runs to the wall cabinets.
- Stone is cut from slabs, so a fabricator may charge for more than your net area. Add 10 to 15 percent as a starting point.
- Have a fabricator or installer template and confirm every dimension before you order.
